Medico-legal psychiatrist in Glasgow
Dr Yameen Qureshi is a consultant psychiatrist and civil expert witness based in Glasgow. Glasgow is where the majority of assessments are carried out in person, and where the practice's clinical work is grounded. Agents instructing a psychiatric expert witness in Glasgow, or in cases proceeding through Glasgow Sheriff Court or the Court of Session, will typically find an assessment can be arranged there without the delay or cost of travel to a more distant centre.
Consulting in Greater Glasgow
In-person assessments are arranged at a consulting venue in Greater Glasgow, agreed with the instructing agent once an instruction is accepted. Where the examinee lives at a distance, a venue closer to them within the west of Scotland can usually be found instead — see Scotland-wide coverage.
All correspondence, including letters of instruction, records and invoices, should be directed to the practice's office rather than to any clinical premises: Centrum Business Park, 38 Queen Street, Glasgow, G1 3DX. This keeps medico-legal correspondence entirely separate from clinical records held by any hospital or NHS board.
Glasgow Sheriff Court and the Court of Session
Glasgow Sheriff Court is the busiest sheriff court in Scotland, and a substantial proportion of personal injury and other civil actions calling there are supported by a psychiatric assessment carried out locally. A Glasgow base means diet dates, proofs and options hearings can be accommodated with comparatively short notice.
The Court of Session sits in Edinburgh, but there is no requirement that the underlying psychiatric assessment take place there. Many Court of Session actions with a west of Scotland pursuer or defender are supported by a Glasgow assessment, with Dr Qureshi travelling to Edinburgh separately for proof if required. See the Edinburgh page for arrangements around attendance in Edinburgh itself.
The Priory Hospital Glasgow
Dr Qureshi is lead clinician for general adult and addiction psychiatry at the Priory Hospital Glasgow. That clinical practice is separate from his independent medico-legal work: examinees assessed for a report are not thereby taken on for treatment, and treating patients are not asked to provide medico-legal evidence. The connection is relevant to instructing agents chiefly as evidence of continuing clinical practice alongside expert witness work, which is addressed further under instructing a psychiatric expert witness.
Travel radius across the west of Scotland
Beyond Glasgow itself, assessments are routinely arranged across the west of Scotland, including Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, Ayrshire, Dunbartonshire and Argyll, either at a venue in Glasgow or, where more practical for the examinee, locally.
Where an examinee cannot travel — because of the nature of the condition under assessment, disability, or distance — a remote assessment by secure video is considered as an alternative; see remote assessments.
